Growing up, I always appreciated the Weeki Wachee River, but as I got older and I set out to camp at the best state parks in Florida. I then realized that the Weeki Wachee is one of the most gorgeous and scenic rivers in Florida. Fortunately, I wasn’t the only one that felt that way. A year ago this month, the Weeki Wachee area became a State Park. Growing up in Spring Hill, the spring fed waters of the Weeki Wachee were a nearby gem on a hot summer day. The luke warm waters of the beach, just didn’t cool you off and it just wasn’t adventurous enough. Luckily I knew that the water of the Weeki Wachee is a cool 72 degrees, year round. Now that the river is a part of a State Park, the remote location of our shoot has become even more remote, and I am thankful we got permission to shoot on the river and that the river will be protected for years to come! When we starting shooting, the temperature outside was only in the 70′s, so the 72 degree water was chilly. Nevertheless, Kristen and Mike went to any lengths to make a great picture. Even as I told them stories about huge banana spiders I saw along the trails only weeks before, they braved the tall ferns and saw palmettos. I can’t wait for Kristen and Mike’s wedding. Their engagement session was exciting, but what is even more exciting is they are getting married at one of my favorite venues, the Lange Farm! A special thanks to Stephanie Smith for coming along and getting some great shots.
